Terms & Conditions

Online Veterinary Telehealth Services

  • Effective Date: [Insert Date]
  • These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the online veterinary consultation services (“Services”) provided by [Practice Name] (“Practice,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms.

1. Scope of Services

The Services consist of virtual veterinary consultations provided via telehealth platforms (video, phone, messaging, or other digital communication tools).

Telehealth services may include:

  • General medical advice
  • Review of medical history
  • Behavioral guidance
  • Follow-up consultations
  • Preventative care discussions

Telehealth services do not replace in-person examinations where physical assessment, diagnostics, or emergency intervention are required.

We reserve the right to refuse service if, in our professional judgment, telehealth is not appropriate for your pet’s condition.

2. No Emergency Care

The Services are not intended for emergency situations.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, including but not limited to difficulty breathing, seizures, uncontrolled bleeding, trauma, poisoning, collapse, or severe pain, you must immediately contact a local veterinary clinic or emergency animal hospital.

We assume no responsibility for outcomes resulting from delayed emergency care.

3. Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR)

A Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) will only be established where permitted under applicable state or regional law.

Where required by law, a VCPR may require:

  • A recent in-person examination; or
  • Compliance with state-specific telemedicine regulations.

If a legally valid VCPR does not exist, we may be limited to providing general advice only and may not prescribe medication.

4. Prescriptions & Treatment Limitations

Prescriptions, treatment plans, and medical recommendations are provided solely at the veterinarian’s professional discretion and only where legally permitted.

We reserve the right to:

  • Decline to prescribe medication
  • Recommend in-person examination prior to treatment
  • Refuse treatment when insufficient information is available

You acknowledge that telehealth consultations are based entirely on the information you provide and may be limited without physical examination or diagnostics.

5. Client Representations & Responsibilities

By using the Services, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are the legal owner or authorized agent of the pet.
  • All information provided is accurate, complete, and current.
  • You will disclose all relevant medical history and medications.
  • You will follow up with in-person care when advised.

You understand that incomplete or inaccurate information may impact diagnosis or treatment recommendations.

6. Informed Consent to Telehealth

By using the Services, you acknowledge and consent to the following:

  • Telehealth has inherent limitations compared to in-person care.
  • Technical failures may occur.
  • Diagnosis and treatment recommendations may be limited without physical examination.
  • You may withdraw consent to telehealth at any time.

7. Fees & Payment

All fees are due at the time of booking or service unless otherwise stated.

Fees are non-refundable once services have been rendered, except where required by law.

We reserve the right to modify pricing at any time with reasonable notice.

8. Privacy & Data Security

We maintain administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect your information.

However, no digital transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure. By using the Services, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of electronic communication.

Personal information and medical records are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The Practice is not liable for damages resulting from reliance on telehealth consultations.
  • The Practice is not responsible for adverse outcomes resulting from inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information provided by the client.
  • The Practice is not liable for delays or interruptions caused by technology failures beyond our control.

In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount paid for the specific consultation giving rise to the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Practice, its veterinarians, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from:

  • Your misuse of the Services
  • Your failure to follow professional recommendations
  • Information you provide that is inaccurate or incomplete

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which the veterinarian is licensed, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts located in that jurisdiction.

12. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Entire Agreement

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the Practice regarding use of the Services and supersede any prior agreements.
